Our Hair Craft

Each wig’s creation commences with a design. Depending on the production, we closely collaborate with makeup artists, costume designers, directors, and artists, all of whom contribute their vision for the character. Every aspect is thoughtfully considered: period, age, origin, and the intended purpose of the wig. This initiates a quest for reference materials, meticulous hair selection based on attributes of origin, length, color, and texture, and careful coordination of hair type and color. This lays the foundation for the ensuing technical construction of the wig, wherein we precisely ascertain the optimal approach.

To ensure a natural head shape and comfortable fit, we prepare the person’s hair exactly as it will be positioned under the wig. Following this, the head wrap is created using cling film to form an exact replica of the head. This method yields the utmost precision in shape and dimensions. Subsequently, the hairline is delineated, and supplementary relevant measurements are documented.

To guarantee the individualized nature of each wig, we craft a dedicated head block for each artist. By filling the block with cotton wool, using the head wrap as a reference, we carefully replicate the precise contours of the person’s head shape and hairline. This personalized approach ensures a flawless fit and seamless harmony between the wig and the wearer’s features.

The foundation of the wig is as significant to us as the hair and knotting. Through manual craftsmanship and the use of premium Swiss lace, we forge a base that seamlessly conforms to the head. The wig fits so snugly that it offers a level of comfort that allows the performer to forget they’re even wearing a wig. Throughout the creation of the foundation, we consider every element: the wig’s purpose, the artist’s comfort, and the intended hairstyle. Every detail is diligently attended to.

For each wig, we select hair that precisely serves its purpose. We collaborate with different hair origins, such as virgin Slavic or European hair, to create an ideal match. To attain the accurate color and texture required before knotting, we prepare the raw hair ourselves. With careful precision, the hair is gently drawn to optimal lengths, facilitating graceful movement. If necessary, we dye the hair (for example, adding root color to enhance depth and realism) and blend shades for a natural blend of colors. The creation of a curl texture is also an option, achieved through boiling and heat setting the hair. This enables us to always customize wigs or hairpieces to your preference.

Once the hair selection is complete, we initiate the knotting process. By using very fine knotting hooks, we carefully hand-knot each hair strand onto the base. Though time-intensive, this technique yields results of the utmost quality. By using specific knotting diagrams for different hairstyles, we craft wigs designed for easy wearing and maintenance. Throughout this manual process, we strive to replicate authentic hair growth patterns and density. This devotion to detail and quality is evident in every wig we create.

Knotting concludes, ushering in the final touch! The wig is washed, cut, and styled, ready for fitting. We personally try on each wig to ensure the outcome meets your expectations. Of course, adjustments can always be made on set or in the theater, should the need arise. This enables the wig to be used immediately. As we consider every detail and stand for craftsmanship, we guarantee our wigs look astonishingly authentic and convincingly resemble a natural head of hair, virtually indistinguishable from real hair.
